Large-scale peculiar velocity fields: Newtonian vs relativistic treatment

چکیده
We employ a perturbative analysis to study the evolution of large-scale peculiar velocity fields within framework Newtonian gravity and then compare our results those corresponding relativistic treatment. In so doing, we use same mathematical formalism apply physical approach. This facilitates direct transparent comparison between two treatments. Our recovers extends familiar on one hand, while other it shows that leads substantially weaker growth-rates for field, compared implies that, by using Newton's rather than Einstein's theory, could seriously underestimate overall kinematic cosmological motions. are also in position identify reason theories arrive at such considerably different conclusions.

Reconstruction of large-scale peculiar velocity fields
A reconstruction method for recovering the initial conditions of the Universe starting from the present galaxy distribution is presented which guarantees uniqueness of solutions. We show how our method can be used to obtain the peculiar velocities of a large number of galaxies, hence trace galaxies orbits back in time and obtain the entire past dynamical history of the Universe above scales whe...
متن کاملDensity Contrast–Peculiar Velocity Relation in the Newtonian Gauge
In general relativistic framework of large scale structure formation theory in the universe, we investigate relation between density contrast and peculiar velocity in the Newtonian gauge. According to the gauge–invariant property of the energy–momentum tensor in the this gauge, the velocity perturbation behaves as the Newtonian peculiar velocity. In this framework, relation between peculiar vel...
متن کاملFractal escapes in Newtonian and relativistic multipole gravitational fields
We study the planar motion of test particles in gravitational fields produced by an external material halo, of the type found in many astrophysical systems, such as elliptical galaxies and globular clusters. Both the Newtonian and the general-relativistic dynamics are examined, and in the relativistic case the dynamics of both massive and massless particles are investigated. The halo field is g...
متن کاملLarge-scale peculiar motions and cosmic acceleration
Observers with small, but finite, peculiar velocities relative to the Hubble flow can measure a negative deceleration parameter, although the universe may be actually decelerating. The effect is local but it can affect large enough scales to give the impression that the whole universe had recently entered an accelerated phase. We outline the key features of the accelerating mechanism and discus...
متن کاملThe Large - Scale Velocity
1 Bulk Flows as a Cosmological Probe Hubble's Law, now spectacularly connrmed by the work of 27], 35], and 39], tells us that the distances of galaxies are proportional to their observed recession velocities, at least at low redshifts: cz = H 0 r : (1) However, this is not exactly correct. Galaxies have peculiar velocities above and beyond the Hubble ow indicated by Eq. (1). We denote the pecul...
